His Name is Jesus
unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first
and the last, which was dead, and is alive; I know thy works, and
tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of
them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
The other day while reflecting on the “sacred namers” and their strange beliefs I really felt God speaking so plainly to me. To be frank I wasn’t quite sure what to make of these people at first. From the beginning I had a certain visceral reaction against their teachings, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on why. In case you were wondering, the sacred name movement is an offshoot of the Seventh Day Adventists and Millerites. They believe among other things that we must call God the Father ‘Yahweh’ and Jesus ‘Yeshua’ or one of the dozens of other spellings.
I have learned over the years to trust my gut feelings, which in the case of a Christian more often than not is the voice of the Holy Spirit. Even so, “Trust but verify” as President Reagan said back in the 80s. We must get confirmation from scripture for every impression we get, even when we feel certain that it’s from the Holy Spirit.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my
name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but
such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up
How Important is Jesus’ Name?
Mary and Joseph did not choose the name of Jesus, it was given to them by an angel of the Lord (Matthew 1:21 KJV). Seventeen times in the gospels Jesus talks about things done in His name. I ask you, is His name important?
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of
Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified,
whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before
you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which
is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other:
for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must
Under no other name are men saved, would Satan try to keep such a powerful name from the Christian’s lips? Any Christian with the Holy Spirit operating in their life knows the power in the name of Jesus. Even the vagabond Jews knew the power of His name (Acts 19:13 KJV).
The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried
in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD,
thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
A reality check here folks; are we going to believe that God perfectly preserved His Word as He promised or not? Could He have inspired the writers of the Greek New Testament to record this name so crucial to Christianity incorrectly?
This isn’t a matter of just a name; the Yeshua thing is only scratching the surface. Like their apostate mother denying God’s Word is nothing new for sacred namers, many of them believe that the writings of Paul are heresy and should be removed from God’s Word because he writes so much of us no longer being under the Law but under grace. We need to know them by their fruits.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in
sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them
by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
What are the fruits of these sacred namers? I had one of them ridicule my Christianity, and when I asked him what he was he said “I am an Israelite”! They claim you are calling on Zeus when you use the name of Jesus. They claim the writings of Paul are heretical. They put themselves under the Law as did the men of Galatia and Seventh Day Adventists.
And that because of false brethren unawares brought
in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ
Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
These sacred namers live under bondage to the Law and try to bring others into it with them. How the name of Jesus may or may not have been pronounced in ancient Hebrew is irrelevant. We are certain that His name in English is JESUS. Only God knows the intentions of the heart; however we must throw this sacred name foolishness on the dung heap where it belongs!
