The Law is Dead to Us

IMGSo many Christians seem to be utterly confused about whether we are supposed to keep the Law of Moses or not; they confess a belief in Christ yet still try to keep the Law. The only way to the Father is through the Son, once we embrace the cross the law becomes dead to us. The Law only exists for the purpose of convicting the unbeliever on judgment day. We come to the Father not through keeping the Law but the grace of Jesus Christ. The lack of teaching in the body of Christ on this crucial matter is astonishing.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Matthew 23:25-26 (KJV)

The old covenant was all about the outward appearance, it didn't deal with the sin in men's hearts. This is why Christ had to come and usher in the new covenant, the Pharisees were outwardly very pious and good but their hearts were wicked. I wish people could see that under the new covenant everything is now judged by the intentions of our hearts. This is why Jesus told us things such as this:

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Matthew 5:27-28 (KJV)

This is also why 2 Corinthians 3:3 (KJV) tells us that His Law was written in our hearts; it's all about the heart under the new covenant. But our flesh just loves to go by the outward appearance doesn't it? This is how men were able to secretly creep into the churches (Jude 1:4 KJV) and mix their doctrines of devils into them. Because we go by the outward appearance instead of judging their fruits we have actually ended up with warlocks and witches running most of the so called "Christian" churches!.

Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Romans 7:1-4 (KJV)

The Law was the old husband, the husband is dead, and now the woman is remarried as the bride of Christ. Pure simplicity. Yet this is the part where people start quoting all the scripture that seems to indicate that the law isn't really dead to Christians. Folks, God does not speak from both sides of His mouth, if there seems to be a contradiction in His Word it is only because our understanding is flawed. His Word is perfect and will be preserved forever.

When the Word of God speaks about the law we must understand the context. Is it talking about the lost or the follower of Christ? The follower of Christ will be judged by the law written in their heart and the unbeliever by the Law of the old covenant.

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
2 Corinthians 3:3 (KJV)

If the law is dead to us who are in Christ does that mean we can break the ten commandments as we wish? If you're a Christian the Law is now in your heart, so you tell me. Does your heart tell you that murder is permitted? Does it tell you that stealing is alright? Or Adultery? That is how we will be judged, the Law of Moses will last forever, but only to convict the lost on judgment day.

For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
Galatians 2:19 (KJV)

Now we may understand scripture such as the above verse plainly; for It is through the old covenant that we come to the new covenant. We all started out as unbelievers destined to be found guilty under the Law but we came through the Law to a belief in the grace of Christ's shed blood on the cross, and in doing so the Law became dead to us. Praise God!
