Unequally Yoked

IMGBe ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)

In discussing the subject of being unequally yoked the first order of business is to establish what it means exactly. A yoke is used to bind two or more animals together to do some type of work. If they are not equally matched one animal will end up holding back the other.

Who we yoke ourselves to in this life is of great importance, especially in marriage. Something God has shown me is that there are many women out there (and men) whose sole assignment in life is to marry a Christian and lead them away from God. These Christians had a mighty testimony and ministry ahead of them, but allowed themselves to be lead astray by unbelieving or spiritually lukewarm spouses into the cares of this world.

Now i'm not saying that people should be getting divorced, however if you find yourself unequally yoked to another person you need to do something about it, immediately. You need to start doing God's will for your life despite what your spouse says, even if it means your marriage. How many put Jesus on the back burner for an attractive person? How many weigh physical attractiveness as more important than being a virtuous Christian man or woman?

I have heard the stories of many women who have gotten engaged to an unbeliever, then subsequently given their fiancées an ultimatum before their wedding day to 'get saved' or else. What were they thinking? You cannot unequally yoke yourself with an unsaved person and just demand that they pick up the slack!

Another foolish mistake Christians make is “missionary dating”, which is dating an unsaved person with the supposed goal of getting them saved. More often than not this is simply a rationalization for dating someone you already know is not right for you. Most always the unsaved person will drag the other down before being lifted up.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)

And to those of you who find yourselves stuck in just such a situation I ask, will you continue to live in a lukewarm relationship with Christ just to keep the peace in your home? You need to recognize exactly what you are up against here. You aren't just fighting your unbelieving spouse, but Satan himself and his minions that are operating through your marriage!

But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 10:33 (KJV)

Do you think you will make it to Heaven as a 007 secret Christian, denying Christ every step of the way by your actions, or lack thereof? If your walk with Christ is not causing friction in your marriage to an unbeliever then you aren't doing it right! Christ must be the center of our lives, He does not settle for second place to anything or anyone.

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:26 (KJV)

These are strong words that the counterfeit, effeminate Jesus that the churches preach today would never say. They portray Him as some flexible, pansy who will gladly accept lip service and any attention you manage to give Him like so many crumbs from your table. Our God did not send His only Son to die for a whorish bride who loves the things of this world more than Him. Reality check folks, do you love your spouse more than God? Do you care more about offending them than God? If so, He has no use for you.

Being Yoked to Unbelieving Family Members

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Genesis 2:24 (KJV)

If a spouse is not happy with your dedication to God they may divorce you, but what about those you cannot easily untangle from like parents, or children? Scripture tells us it is normal for us to move on from parental influence when they get married, but what of unbelieving children?

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Romans 1:26-27 (KJV)

How many “Christian” parents today are ignoring or even affirming the lifestyle choices of their unbelieving children so as not to offend them? And make no mistake, if they try to justify their sin they are indeed unbelievers. If so you are calling God a liar to justify their abominations! Do you think you will get away with this on judgment day? No, that doesn't mean you stop loving them. Despite what Westboro Baptist and Steven Anderson preach God loves all sinners, however we must warn them they are headed to Hell if they do not repent!

What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
1 Corinthians 6:16 (KJV)

Of course homosexuality is only one example of sinful behavior, but in these end times even the most grievous of sins are tolerated in the Great Whore's religious system which includes all the denominations. At one time it was called 'living in sin' for two unmarried people to live together, but today anything goes. But what the world and church believe changes nothing about God's attitude towards sin, sexual or otherwise.

The Truth is Hate to Those That Hate the Truth

One case that has recently been in the papers is that of the tragic suicide of transgender teen Josh Alcorn. When Josh was 14 he started to identify as 'Leelah', much to the dismay of his Christian parents.

"We don't support that, religiously," Alcorn's mother told CNN on Wednesday, her voice breaking. "But we told him that we loved him unconditionally. We loved him no matter what. I loved my son. People need to know that I loved him. He was a good kid, a good boy."
CNN Interview with Josh Alcorn's Mom

If the above quote is true Alcorn's parents handled the situation in a biblical manner. They made it known that they did not believe his life choice was correct, but expressed that they still loved him unconditionally. As sad as it is, it was Josh who ultimately chose to embrace the sinful imaginations of his mind rather than heed the religious instruction of his parents. Whether that fact is of any comfort to his parents remains to be seen. Only they are in a position to know if they could have done more.

This is where Jesus command to 'hate' our children comes into play. These parents loved their son, but told him the truth. What is particularly disturbing about this story is how Satan has twisted the mind of this teen to the point of suicide. This is akin to emotional blackmail, but it gets even worse. Because Christians like Josh's parents will soon be charged with murder as a hate crime simply because they warned him that they did not appove of his lifestyle choice.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 (KJV)

The good news is that forgiveness is available for those who repent and turn away from their sins. If you are in a sexual relationship with someone you are not married to you must get out of it, today. If you are living together one of you must move out. But you may say, can't we just get married? No, not unless you both agree to sincerely repent of living in sexual sin and completely abstain from sex until you are married. Otherwise in God's eyes you will be... unequally yoked.
