Ye Shall Be as Gods

IMGHow art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isaiah 14:12-14 (KJV)

Perhaps the most seductive of temptations ever was to tell Adam and Eve that they could be like God almighty. After all, this is the very lie that caused Satan to fall. He was the anointed cherub of God (Ezekiel 28:14 KJV) until this iniquity was found in him. This same lie is even today being told and leading multitudes to their eternal destruction.

"We are at any given moment living the totality of everything... The vibrational oscillation of nature is quickening... Just remember that you are God, and act accordingly."
Shirley MacLaine

One way this idea is powerfully expressed is within the New Age cult. They perceive supernatural things happening, but as gods believe that they themselves are causing them to happen with their own minds and wills. Even as they channel demonic entities they have been convinced that these beings are actually fellow humans (ascended masters) who have ascended to a higher plane. Another way of putting it is the "IAM" that they worship is themselves!

Most Christians can agree that these things are ungodly and evil, however I want you to look a little deeper. What it comes down to is a battle of wills. The difference for those of us who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is that we say "Thy will be done" (Matthew 6:10 KJV) but those of this world say "My will be done".

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
1 Samuel 15:23 (KJV)

We see this expressed in all the famous rebels of the bible. We see it in Cain's deciding to substitute fruit for the blood sacrifice that God required. We see it in Saul saving the finest livestock from his conquests when God told him to slay every man and beast. Both men paid the price for their rebellion. Seeing this we can understand why rebellion is as witchcraft to God; because when we think we can do it on our own in God's eyes we are acting every bit as evil as those who are the servants of Satan.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV)

But perhaps when we do our own will we are even more wicked, because Satan's servants have been blinded to the truth (2 Corinthians 4:4 KJV) but as professing followers of Christ we do not have that excuse.

Have you been refusing to submit to God in some area of your life? It is rebellion and sin just like witchcraft and must be confessed as such. We must submit to God in all areas of our life, not just those we choose to hand over to Him. We must ask Him to show us the areas of our lives that are not pleasing to Him and pray for the strength to overcome in these things. There is only room in our lives for one God; it is either going to be us or Him. Because the ruler of this world deceives us into serving him by making us think we are serving ourselves. He doesn't say I will be your god, he tells us that we will be like God.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1 John 3:2 (KJV)

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)

The fact of the matter is that to be like the most high is the inheritance of every Christian. This is why Satan hates humanity so much, plain old jealousy. Because unlike him we shall be just like Jesus one day. What this exactly means is somewhat of a mystery to us now, but one day it will all be clear. One day we shall all be like Him, but only if we fight the good fight (1 Timothy 6:12 KJV), keep our garments clean (Revelation 7:14 KJV) and endure to the end (Matthew 10:22 KJV).
